How it all started

Computers and the internet always fascinated me. In my youth, when you still had to pay for your internet usage by the minute, I would get up very early in the mornings and surf the internet before going to school. Not being good at math, I couldn’t see myself studying Computer Science and decided not to pursue this interest.

Fast forward to 2019. I’m unhappy in my role as a psychologist and decide to change careers. I’m still not good at math, and therefore start to study Business Informatics, in addition to working full-time as a psychologist. I enjoy learning Java and the basics of Computer Science, but I don’t like the rest of the curriculum, and therefore I quit. Instead I take online courses in HTML, CSS, JS and Python on edX, Coursera, and Codecademy. I particularly enjoy using and improving my analytical and problem-solving skills, and decide this is the new career for me.

I completed Code Institute’s Full Stack Software Development course while still working full-time. It was exhausting, and I suffered through several episodes of Imposter syndrome, but I enjoyed it tremendously. I discovered that I enjoy working on the backend more than working on the frontend. I care about making my apps secure with CORS and CSP and implementing code logic to reliably and concisely achieve the desired results from user actions.

I’m always interested in improving the quality of my code and following best practices. I practice on codewars and leetcode to improve and learn from other approaches to the coding challenges.

To achieve my goal of working as a software engineer, I’m looking for roles not only in Germany, but also in the Netherlands, and in Dublin, Ireland.
